Discover the Joy of Reading

Discover and Share the joy of reading

Reading should not be presented to children as a chore or duty. It should be offered as a gift.

Reading is a divine habit and always beneficial to students to enhance their learning. The joy of reading is to escape into a world of fiction or non-fiction. It’s really a solitary experience and this is always comforting. Though in this high-tech world, the concept of reading is changing fast. But there is no difference between a high quality paper and e-link screen. The biggest pleasure comes from what we read not from on what we read.

Over the years our reading time has morphed and no longer resembles those sweet snuggles of the early days. But in PWS we have tried to carry on with the legacy of reading to expand our learning repertoire. In order to teach students to read effectively we not only supply information on a particular text but also techniques to build reading skills. It is delivered effectively both ways-in the form of hard cover book or a multi media book. We play an eminent role in inspiring students to develop their reading habits but it is well known that children tend to learn things from their parents as well. If parents read books at home and discuss with children it will be a natural booster for the kids to start reading. There are number of ways that parents can help foster children love of reading

Start with Books that Appeal to You :

Before you get to know about your child’s liking, recollect the books that you loved when you were small. Visit any city library or book store or reading sites to know about different genres and authors. Nowadays we have so much stuff available on net. We can browse and find out best books for our children.

Set an Example :

Children love to follow their parents. Act as a role model in front of your child reading a magazine or newspaper and discussing about different topics. In this world of technology we are running a race but as a parent it is our moral responsibility to teach our children the basics of learning and we can set an example by taking out some quality time for them.

Plan out a Reading Routine :

To get your child hooked on reading get aside a regular time each day to enjoy a book together. At least plan out thirty minutes to make them read two or three chapters. That’s enough time to give the young reader a chance to settle down, focus and enjoy the reading. As your children mature as readers, encourage them to read to you with lots of expression.

Expose Your Child to different Genres :

Expose different genres to your child like Mystery, Science fiction, Comic etc. Involve yourself otherwise you are sending a message that reading isn’t much fun. No matter how much tired you are, let the actor in you emerge. If you sound bored you can’t expect your child to be interested. Try to take some time out each night for reading a book for your child.

Buy Books Whenever Possible :

Try to fill book shelves at home and taking your children to any library from time to time. Present them a book occasionally and encourage others also to do the same.

Our brain requires exercise to remain healthy and it has been found that connectivity in the brain is enhanced through reading. When we read we concentrate on one thing and train our mind to avoid distraction. The more we read, the more words we are exposed to. It helps in the expansion of vocabulary of a child.

We need to motivate our children to take up reading as a compulsory routine. It should not be gulping down knowledge like a glass of milk. Rather reading should be more fun and enriching experience without any kind of pressure.
