PM Modi- Netanyahu inaugurate iCreate

A centre which will promote innovation, entrepreneurship among Indian youth. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu jointly inaugurated the iCreate Centre at Deo Dholera village. iCreate or the International Centre for Entrepreneurship and Technology has major tie-ups with Israeli firms to act as a catalyst for innovation and an institution for young entrepreneurs with advanced technological ideas.

The two leaders interacted with innovators and Startup CEOs. Prime Minister Modi quoted Einstein saying that ‘imagination’ is more important than ‘knowledge’ emphasising the need for institutions such as iCreate that can take a nation to a different level.

Endorsing Narendra Modi’s vision, the Israeli premier said, ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi is right. Technology is central to development, because all of us rise and fall together. Half a year ago, Israel-India developed an innovation bridge to help solve pressing global problems. Over 600 companies applied. Several dozen were chosen. I have a simple message. I want young Indians to know Israel wants to form partnerships with you. We’re your partners.’

North and South Korea agree to march under unified flag for Winter Olympics

Both North and South Korea have agreed they will form a combined women’s ice hockey team to participate in the Winter Olympics which will be held in the South. They also agreed they will march together at the opening ceremony with a unified peninsula flag.

A joint statement released by Seoul’s unification ministry said the decisions were made on Wednesday during rare talks held between the two sides.

North Korea will send a 550-member delegation, including 230 cheerleaders, 140 artists and 30 Taekwondo players for a demonstration, the statement said.

Micromax to launch India’s first Android Oreo Go smartphone

Domestic handset maker Micromax said it will launch a smartphone – Bharat GO – later this month that is powered by Google’s ‘Android Oreo Go’ software. Micromax, in a statement today, said the ‘Bharat Go’ smartphone “will be made available by the end of this month, making it the first smartphone in the country to be available with Oreo Goedition”.

Virat  Kohli  sweeps ICC awards, named Cricketer of the Year 2017

After a tremendous performance with the bat last year, Indian captain Virat Kohli on Thursday swept ICC Awards as the 29-year won the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for being the World Cricketer of the Year 2017. Apart from the award, the Indian skipper was also named as ICC ODI cricketer of the year 2017 and the captain of both ICC Test and ODI teams. It is the second time Kohli has been named as the ODI cricketer of the year as he won the same honour in 2012 when he was 24 years old.

Uber Says It’s Nearing Autonomous Cars Without Human Backup Driver

Uber plans to carry passengers in autonomous vehicles without human backup drivers in about the same time frame as competitors, which expect to be on the road at the latest sometime next year, the service’s autonomous vehicle chief said Wednesday.
Advanced Technology Group leader Eric Meyhofer wouldn’t give a specific start date but he said Uber won’t deploy the driverless cars without human backups unless they are proved safe.”Once we can check that box, which we call passing the robot driver’s license test, that’s when we can remove the vehicle operator,” Meyhofer said in an interview at an auto industry investors conference Detroit. “We’re going aggressively too.”
Waymo, the name of the autonomous car unit of Alphabet’s Google, currently is testing on public roads in the Phoenix area without human backups and plans to carry passengers soon. General Motors’s Cruise Automation has promised to start sometime next year in an unspecified location.Meyhofer said Volvo XC-90 SUVs are being prepared for the work. Uber Technologies has 215 test vehicles carrying passengers with human backups in Phoenix, San Francisco, Pittsburgh and Toronto. They travel 80,000 miles per week gathering data and have given 50,000 paid rides, he said.
